They grow their own barley and distill and mature their spirit all on site, keeping as much of the process as local as they can.
Lochlea are very proud that Robert Burns called Lochlea his home from 1777 until his father’s death in 1784. By day, Burns worked hard on the farm and in the evening, he enjoyed the company of his friends, debating at the Bachelors’ Club in nearby Tarbolton. The ground there has inspired the honest, passionate, and progressive nature of Lochlea whisky.
Lochlea’s Red Wine Cask sits alongside the Single Estate core range of single malts, a permanent collection reflecting their commitment to quality, provenance, and character. They release a Red Wine Cask bottling annually, with each year bringing a different expression of red wine. The 2026 release consists of whisky matured in first-fill Bourbon barrels and finished in Sangiovese Wine casks.
The result is a sweet, velvety whisky with hints of honey and gentle spice, finishing with ripe red berry and moreish nutty notes. This release continues the range with a deeper, more expressive take on Lochlea's Red Wine Cask style, setting the pace for a vibrant and evolving collection still to come!

Nose - Red berries, baked apples, notes of honey and gentle spice.
Taste - Sweet, creamy with plenty of red berry and nutty notes.
Finish - Gentle spice and pleasant oakiness.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
