Originally named “Maghellan”, Macallan was among the first distillers in Scotland to obtain legal licensing, Macallan has built its reputation on a product of outstanding quality and distinctive character. The distillery has a capacity of 15,000,000 litres produced by its 36 stills. Edrington currently owns Macallan, having acquired it from Highland Distillers in 1999.
The Macallan Double Cask 12 Year Old forms part of the Double Cask range which marries the classic Macallan style and the unmistakable sweetness of American Oak. This is a fully rounded single malt in perfect balance, with flavours of fudge, citrus and soft spice.
Each expression within the Double Cask Collection is a complex sensorial journey. Beautifully balanced by European and American Oak, sherry seasoned in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Notes of candied lemon citrus and smooth fudge are just two of the defining flavours in The Macallan 12 Years Old - Double Cask. Subtle hints of vanilla can be found in this marriage of casks, the defining feature of the Double Cask collection.

1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
