MacNaMara is a
blended scotch whisky from Praban Na Linne, The Gaelic Whiskies. The company was founded in 1976 by Sir Iain Noble to provide "Whisky for Highlanders", in the Gaelic speaking Hebrides. A small niche whisky company on the Isle of Skye, it focuses on quality, remaining one of the few independent businesses in the Scotch Whisky industry, and one of the few with its headquarters in the Scottish Hebrides. They have designed and developed the premium range, infusing the names of the whiskies with the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of Scottish Gaelic.
Mac Na Mara means “the Son of the Sea” in Gaelic, reflecting the rich maritime heritage of Scotland’s Hebridean Islands. It recalls the ancient Celtic sea kingdom that once ruled the vital seafaring routes from the Isle of Man to the Isle of Lewis, flourishing from medieval times through to the 16th century.
This MacNaMara bottling undergoes double maturation. First following the standard maturation in Bourbon casks, this whisky also matured in Guyanan Rum Casks for twelve months. This Gaelic whisky is fresh and smooth in character with a touch of oiliness balanced by the sweetness of rum.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Light, biscuit-like with a touch of sugared rum sweetness.
Palate - Fresh, smooth, slightly oily but balanced by the sweetness of the rum.
