Paul John whisky is manufactured by John Distillers, located in Goa, India. The whisky brand was set up in 2012 and is named after the founder and chairman of John Distillers. The company sources as much of the raw materials from India as possible. The only exceptions is this are their casks and the peat (when they use it), everything else, including the barley, is Indian and grown at the foot of the Himalayas - this barley gives their whisky a slightly buttery note.
The angel share in Goa is high, at 8 - 10 % per annum, therefore accelerating the maturation of the whisky tremendously. The whisky matures in specially chosen charred American white oak barrels, stored in two distinct warehouses, imparting unique character to each whisky and individual flavour to every cask.
Paul John Edited is an extraordinary Indian whisky. They have poured forth all their mastery into crafting this Single Malt. The skillful selection of cask profiles has created the subtle hint of peat in this blend. All to delight the true whisky connoisseur.
Official Tasting Notes
Colour - Amber gold.
Nose - Honey and cocoa with a hint of smokiness and a shot of espresso. A deeper whiff reveals fruity fragrances.
Palate - The grassy flavours of barley show up first, but gently make way for subtle peat notes. They slowly dissolve and pave the way for a rush of mint and mocha.
Finish - The finish is long and drawn out. You can sense a hint of spice and chocolate mint as it ends on gentle peat notes.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
