Red Spot was originally produced exclusively for the Mitchell family. They commenced trading in 1805 on 10 Grafton St. in the heart of the City of Dublin, as purveyors of fine wines and confectionary. Four generations later, the company is still in the wine and spirits business, and now under the stewardship of Jonathan Mitchell and his son Robert.
The Mitchell family expanded into whiskey bonding in 1887, when they sent empty wine, sherry and port casks via horse and cart to the local Jameson Distillery. These were then filled and returned to the Mitchell’s cellar warehouse. There, the whiskey matured for many years under bond until they were ready to be bottled and sold.
Spot Whiskey now produce several different Single Pot Still Irish Whiskies. These include - Yellow Spot, matured in Spanish Malaga casks and Blue Spot, matured in Bourbon casks, Sherry butts and Portuguese Madeira casks.
Red Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey has matured for over 15 years in a combination of American Bourbon casks, Spanish Sherry butts and Sicilian Marsala Wine casks, all contributing in rich and complex flavours.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Pot Still spices with rich cooked fruit, baked apple, mango and black cherry. Hazelnut and a touch of new leather fuse with toasted American Oak.
Taste - A mix of ripe fruit sweetness from the Marsala seasoned wine casks. While the fruit remains, sweet red pepper and cracked black pepper add some spiciness, finished by notes of American Oak and barley.
Finish - An extra long infusion of fruits and spices.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
