Smokehead is produced by Ian Macleod Distillers, a prominent and independent family-owned Scotch whisky distillery and spirits company based in Scotland. True to its name, Smokehead is renowned for its intense peat smoke character. It offers a robust, maritime flavour with notes of iodine, seaweed, and spices, balanced by underlying sweetness. The whisky features layers of flavours, including hints of citrus, ginger, and rich dried fruits, making it a favourite among fans of heavily peated Scotch. It appeals particularly to those who appreciate the intense, smoky style of Islay whiskies.

Finished in specially selected Oloroso Sherry casks chosen for their flavour and effect on the whisky’s maturation. Bottled at 48% ABV and without chill filtration offering a more intense flavour led experience.

Body - Thick peat lets you know you’ve got a serious Islay single malt on your hands. Then a fruitier, creamier feel – soft rich oak, soothing custard and vanilla.
Flavour - Tie yourself down and wait for the hit of oily black smoke, with a rich, heavy mouthcoating peaty feel. Then along comes a sweet sticky flavour of barbecued banana, tangy sultanas and dried fruits.
Finish - The peat returns. This time it’s brought some authentic Spanish sherry oakiness with it, pleasingly and disturbingly sweet. And one last sharp salty reminder that you’re not dealing with the ordinary here.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
