The Botanist is made at Bruichladdich Distillery, situated on the shore of Loch Indaal on the Isle of Islay. Unlike many of its neighbours, Bruichladdich produces is a lighter softer unpeated whisky. They style themselves as Progressive Hebridean Distillers, and looking for new ideas and initiatives.
The Botanist Cask Aged Gin showcases Bruichladdich distillery’s botanical expertise and whisky-making heritage. An Islay dry gin matured in fine casks for a minimum of 3 years, resulting in a rich copper cuvée. The 22 botanicals have matured, then blended to reveal spiced barrel oak and dark fruit layers.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Opens with notes of fresh, ripe fruits, candied orange and light juniper. Clean, crisp apple and watermelon and tropical fruits mingle with sweet, sugared almonds and oak. A combination of floral botanicals, juniper, brown sugar and leathery tobacco. Sweet pastry, ginger and nutmeg from the heart of the wood speak of the harmony and integration of the oak and spirit.
Taste - Creamy and viscous. Sweet, fresh fruit, vanilla ice cream and toasted oak. The length and complexity on the palate is a testament to the time in oak and selection of casks to compliment the botanicals. The depth of the oak and earthy spices warm the palate while allowing floral, herbal notes to remain at the heart.
Finish - The tropical fruit notes linger. Oaky vanilla fades, grilled pineapple and mango puree. Hints of crushed coriander, candied orange, fragrant juniper and sweet cassia.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
