They enjoyed the whiskey so much that they requested more 'Wild Turkey,' and the name stuck. In 1942, the Austin Nichols company began bottling and distributing Wild Turkey bourbon, establishing it as a recognisable brand.
Today, the distillery is under the ownership of the Campari Group, which acquired the brand from Pernod Ricard in 2009.
Wild Turkey Straight Rye Whiskey is an 81 proof ode to America’s first distilled spirit - rye whiskey. When making this whiskey, the distillers use a deeper, “alligator” char for extra flavour to draw out the big, broad spice notes that make rye whiskey so distinct compared to its bourbon counterparts.

Aroma - Acutely spicy, cereal-grain sweet and a touch citrusy followed by fruit and resin scents.
Finish - Bold, lingering rye and spice.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
