White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 and is located in Ambergate, Derbyshire. The brainchild of Max and Claire Vaughan, it is Derbyshire’s first full-scale craft distillery, with a proud focus on the unique Derbyshire provenance and heritage. The building itself was an old wire works and is now part of a UNESCO world heritage site. They released their first single malt whisky in 2022. In addition to this, they produce Shining Cliff gin, a cask-aged rum, and the 1876 Single Malt Cocktail, all of which they mature, bottle, and label on site. As our closest distillery, we are proud to have been a supporter of White Peak since they were first established.
This 2025 release of Wire Works Necessary Evil Finish is the third in WPD's collaborative series with Bakewell's Thornbridge Brewery.
This whisky begins as a lightly peated spirit aged in ex-bourbon barrels. It's then finished for eight months in casks that previously held Thornbridge’s Necessary Evil imperial stout. The finishing STR casks (shaved, toasted, recharred ex-red wine) first matured Wire Works whisky. Thornbridge uses them to mature Necessary Evil stout, then returns the casks to the distillery to create this release.
