White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 and is located in Ambergate, Derbyshire. The brainchild of Max and Claire Vaughan, it is Derbyshire’s first full-scale craft distillery, with a proud focus on the unique Derbyshire provenance and heritage. The building itself was an old wire works and is now part of a UNESCO world heritage site. They released their first single malt whisky in 2022. In addition to this, they produce Shining Cliff gin, a cask-aged rum, and the 1876 Single Malt Cocktail, all of which they mature, bottle, and label on site. As our closest distillery, we are proud to have been a supporter of White Peak since they were first established.
Wire Works Port Cask is a vatting of White Peak Distillery's core lightly-peated house style single malt spirit, aged in both fresh Tawny Port Barriques and first-fill ex-Bourbon Barrels. The result is a complex whisky with a rich, oily texture. There's a bold, vibrant profile, both from the single malt spirit and the port oak.
Official Tasting Notes
Cinder toffee, Demerara sugar, strawberry laces on the nose, with flavours of vanilla fudge, milk chocolate, marzipan and cherry pie filling on the palate.
Nose - Bakewell pudding, milk chocolate, cinder toffee, burnt sugar, cinnamon buns, liquorice all sorts, cherry lozenges, toasted almond, candied ginger and strawberry jam.
Palate - Marzipan, strawberries and cream, tinned peaches, lemon curd, vanilla fudge, spearmint, milk chocolate, orange zest and rhubarb.
Finish - Cherry pie filling, coffee grounds, honey, bonfire toffee, hibiscus, Turkish delight and eucalyptus.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
