White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 and is located in Ambergate, Derbyshire. The brainchild of Max and Claire Vaughan, it is Derbyshire’s first full-scale craft distillery, with a proud focus on the unique Derbyshire provenance and heritage. The building itself was an old wire works and is now part of a UNESCO world heritage site. They released their first single malt whisky in 2022. In addition to this, they produce Shining Cliff gin, a cask-aged rum, and the 1876 Single Malt Cocktail, all of which they mature, bottle, and label on site. As our closest distillery, we are proud to have been a supporter of White Peak since they were first established.
Wire Works Virgin Oak is a progression towards a permanent addition to the Distillery’s portfolio. The first was Caduro that launched in early 2023. The second whisky release, maturing in Virgin Oak, builds upon the limited release from 2022. A vatting of nine barrels, matured first in first fill ex-bourbon, and then finished in American virgin oak, with varying toast and char levels. Brings out different layers of flavour and complexity.
Made with lightly peated malted barley, live brewer’s yeast and a long fermentation time to add deep fruit notes in the spirit. A vatting of lightly peated single malt whisky initially matured in premium, first fill ex-bourbon barrels and then finished for several months at a lower ABV in virgin American oak barrels.
The bold oak-forward flavours of the casks contribute to the intensity and combination of sweet a spice. Showcasing the rich fruit flavours and elegant smoke profile of the core house spirit.

Nose - Banoffee pie, fruit salad sweets, pistachio & cranberries
Palate - Treacle tart, toasted nuts and sweet spice

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
