Glenfarclas Distillery was founded in 1836 by George Hay, a farmer. At that time, it was common farms to have their own distillery. Since 1865, the distillery has been owned and operated by the Grant family. This makes it one of the few remaining family-owned distilleries in Scotland. John Grant purchased the distillery, and it has remained in the family for six generations. The Grant family's stewardship over the decades has ensured that Glenfarclas remains true to its roots, maintaining a focus on quality and heritage.
Situated in Ballindalloch,
Speyside, the distillery features traditional stone buildings and a picturesque setting near the River Spey. They draw water from the Ben Rinnes mountain, and operate with direct-fired copper pot stills, a traditional method that many distilleries have modernised away from. Known for their extensive use of Oloroso sherry casks, which are crucial in developing the rich and complex flavours of Glenfarclas whiskies.
Glenfarclas typically produce robust and full-bodied whiskies. With rich sherry influences, notes of dried fruit, nuts, and spices, and a long, smooth finish.
100% Oloroso Sherry Cask Maturation. Gloriously smooth, yet with the depth and finish you would normally expect of a much older dram. A wonderfully sherried whisky and excellent aperitif.
