Slane Whiskey comes from the historic Slane Castle, located in County Meath,
Ireland. The castle has a rich history dating back to the late 18th century, and it has been the seat of the Conyngham family for generations. In 1981, Henry Conyngham opened the Slane Castle Distillery.
However, the distillery faced financial challenges and closed in the early 1990s. In 2009, the Conyngham family, in collaboration with Brown-Forman, a major American spirits company, embarked on a new journey to revive the tradition of whiskey making at Slane Castle. The partnership aimed to bring together the Conyngham family's heritage and the expertise of Brown-Forman.
After extensive renovations and investment, the distillery was officially reopened in 2017. The distillery combines traditional Irish whiskey-making methods with modern innovations. The whiskey is crafted using a triple-cask maturation process, involving virgin oak, seasoned oak, and Oloroso sherry casks. This approach imparts a distinctive and complex flavour profile to the whiskey.
Inspired by Lord Henry Conyngham’s desire to bring people together through music, Slane Special Edition commemorates the crowds who, over the last four decades, have witnessed some of the biggest music acts in the world perform on the grounds of Slane Castle.
Using their triple casked blend with an increased amount of Virgin Casks, Slane Special Edition is 45% ABV where 45 rpm is the speed at which original vinyl records spin to salute to the spiritual home of live music in Ireland.
