Benrinnes Distillery is located in Aberlour,
Speyside. Peter McKenzie founded Benrinnes Distillery in 1826 at Whitehouse Farm. After a flood destroyed it in 1829, a new distillery was built in 1835 on a nearby site. Over the years, Benrinnes underwent several ownership changes and periods of rebuilding. Alexander Edward acquired the distillery in the 1860s, modernising the facilities, contributing to its growth.
In 1922, John Dewar & Sons acquired the distillery, and in 1925, it joined the Distillers Company Limited (DCL), which eventually became part of Diageo. Renowned for its unique partial triple distillation process, Benrinnes maintained this technique until 2007, giving its whisky a distinctive character. The spirit is a great example of lighter Speyside, that offer a lot of flavour, thus most of Benrinnes ends up in Diageo’s blends.
This bottling is from the independent bottlers Murray McDavid and is part of their ‘Cask Craft’ range of single malts from across Scotland, artfully matured in a variety of wood types, displaying fines balance of oak and spirit. Established in 1994 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Gordon Wright, Murray McDavid is a leading independent Scotch whisky bottler. They use a variety of interesting casks during maturation to produce Inspired Scotch Whisky.
This single malt from Benrinnes Distillery has hints of cereal, orchard fruits and fresh sweet pastry in its character. The use of Madeira wine barriques from Justino’s in Portugal gives an influence of blood orange, dry fruits with mellow oak spice.
The exotic wine casks have elegantly mellowed this Benrinnes spirit. Resulting in alluring aromas of redcurrants, honied cereal and orange blossom, with comforting flavours of fruity caramel and sweet spice.
