Blanton's Bourbon, introduced in 1984, is known as the first commercially sold single barrel bourbon. Created by Elmer T. Lee, a master distiller at Buffalo Trace Distillery (then called George T. Stagg Distillery), in honour of Colonel Albert B. Blanton. He was a former distillery president who often reserved the best barrels for private use.
Blanton's helped revive interest in premium bourbon during a time when American whiskey sales were in decline. Famous for the collectible horse and jockey bottle stoppers, each bottle label contains details about the barrel and bottling date. Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky continues to produce this world renowned whiskey.
Blanton’s Gold Edition was created for discerning bourbon aficionados who appreciate exceptional smoothness and complexity in their bourbon whiskey.
The nose is first marked by spicy rye and tobacco notes. Caramel and honey follow soon after, mingled with dark fruit and citrus notes. The palate emulates the same complex nose with rye, tobacco, and honey at the forefront. Round and bold notes of charred oak and vanilla carry you through to an extremely long and harmonious finish. This bourbon consistently delivers on balance and character, on par with the world’s finest whiskey. Bottled at 51.5% ABV (103 Proof).
Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
