The Harvey brothers established Bruichladdich Distillery on the shore of Loch Indaal on the Isle of
Islay in 1881. Rémy Cointreau currently owns the distillery. In contrast to many neighboring distilleries, Bruichladdich produces a lighter and softer unpeated whisky. Alongside the Bruichladdich range, they also produce Port Charlotte, a heavily peated range, and Octomore, an extremely heavily peated range. They style themselves as Progressive Hebridean Distillers, and are always looking for new ideas and initiatives.
Bruichladdich Old Skool has been released to celebrate 25 years since the reopening of the distillery in 2001! The founders focused on authenticity, transparency, and flavour, putting Islay and its community first. Old Skool is made from 100% Islay-grown barley, sourced from local farmers for over 20 years, supporting the island’s agriculture while ensuring high quality and traceability. Matured primarily in selected first fill bourbon casks (95%) with a parcel matured in first fill Sauternes white wine casks (5%).

Nose - Ripe stoned fruits with apricot, nectarine, and red plum. Creamy vanilla custard and barley sugar complement delicate notes of orange blossom and geranium leaves. A soft, briny sea breeze brings a coastal freshness. Hints of soft coconut and crème caramel emerge, balancing with the malted barley.
Palate - Balanced and viscous, with juicy stoned fruits adding a bright citrus lift. Layers of soft barley sugar, stewed pear and ripe apple, with quality oak bringing notes of creamy coconut and caramelised vanilla custard. Warming clove and ginger offer gentle spice, with toasted almond, golden brown sugar, and hints of minerality giving depth, complexity and structure.
Finish - Apricot jam and toasted coconut, with vibrant hints of grapefruit and lemon zest. Sweet barley sugar lingers with embers of gently toasted oak.
