Bushmills Distillery is located in Bushmills, County Antrim,
Northern Ireland. Distilling in the village dates back to 1608, when the area was given a licence by King James I, to distill whiskey. This makes them the world's oldest recorded, licensed distillery. Bushmills continues to produce whiskey over 400 years later, thanks to the generations that have skillfully passed down their experience and craft.
The company was established in 1784 by Hugh Anderson, and over the years it has changed hands several times. Diageo, the largest alcoholic drinks company in the world took over in 2005. They maintained ownership until 2014, when Proximo Spirits took up ownership. As well as producing blends, Bushmills also distill single malt Irish whiskey using their copper pot stills.
The Bushmills 12 Year Old is a marriage of single malts matured for a minimum of 12 years in hand-selected Oloroso Sherry Butts and Bourbon Barrels, including a finish of six months in Marsala Wine Barriques from Sicily. These dark, sweet Italian fortified wine casks impart further succulent spiced dried fruit notes and a decadent honey sweetness.
