Bushmills Distillery is located in Bushmills, County Antrim,
Northern Ireland. Distilling in the village dates back to 1608, when the area was given a licence by King James I, to distill whiskey. This makes them the world's oldest recorded, licensed distillery. Bushmills continues to produce whiskey over 400 years later, thanks to the generations that have skillfully passed down their experience and craft.
The company was established in 1784 by Hugh Anderson, and over the years it has changed hands several times. Diageo, the largest alcoholic drinks company in the world took over in 2005. They maintained ownership until 2014, when Proximo Spirits took up ownership. As well as producing blends, Bushmills also distill single malt Irish whiskey using their copper pot stills.
Bushmills Black Bush Irish whiskey combines an exceptionally high amount of malt married with a sweet, small-batch grain whiskey, and then matured in casks that have previously been used for Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon. This unique recipe means that Black Bush has rich, fruity notes and a deep intense character, balanced by an incredibly unique smoothness.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - On the nose, there's a big, full and rich fruitcake aroma, with an intense sherry sweetness, alongside dried fruit and raisin notes.
Palate - You'll find a soft, silky texture on the palate, with a nutty character.
Finish - To finish, there's a lingering sweetness. This is a remarkable balance between the power of the sherry casks, and the smoothness of the spirit.
