The company was established in 1784 by Hugh Anderson, and over the years it has changed hands several times. Diageo, the largest alcoholic drinks company in the world took over in 2005. They maintained ownership until 2014, when Proximo Spirits took up ownership. As well as producing blends, Bushmills also distill single malt Irish whiskey using their copper pot stills.
This is Bushmills Original Irish Whiskey containing single malt finished in fine oak Caribbean Rum casks. It's blended with smooth triple distilled Irish grain whiskey for tropical fruit and dry spice flavours.
Official Tasting Notes
Colour - Rich gold in colour with a distinctive amber hue.
Nose - Immediate crisp apple freshness married with unmistakeable Bushmills honey maltiness gives way to notes of creamy toffee and bursting exotic fruit aromas of pineapple and coconut.
Taste - On the palate, instant sweetness exhibits in caramelised brown sugar notes, interweaving with tones of sticky toffee, leaving a creamy mouthfeel with the quintessential Bushmills malt character evident throughout.
Finish - Long, soft and smooth, the Caribbean Rum cask imparts a lingering, sugary sweet finish to this whiskey.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
