Glayva liqueur was originally produced in 1947 in Leith, Edinburgh by Ronald Morrison & Co Ltd. Ronald wanted to create a new liqueur for his loyal customers. His aim was to produce a tantalisingly unfamiliar and richly delicious spirit, the like of which had never been tasted before.
He started with whisky and then obtained his special ingredients from the surrounding warehouses of other merchants. Many of these ingredients were considered exotic at the time. He combined Mediterranean tangerines, honey, cinnamon and rare spices from far-flung lands, and finally landed on what he determined to be the perfect blend.
Whyte and Mackay Ltd. acquired the brand in 1993, and continue to produce Glayva today.
Glayva is made from a blend of aged Scotch whiskies, a selected range of spices, Mediterranean tangerines, cinnamon, almonds and honey. It has a deep golden colour and a distinctive flavour.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
