Glen Grant Distillery was founded in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant. They were two former illegal distillers and smugglers who decided to take out a license, in Rothes,
Speyside. In 1872, the distillery underwent significant changes under the management of James Grant (known as 'The Major'), who was instrumental in shaping its future. Known for his innovative approach, James introduced the use of tall, narrow pot stills and the use of purifiers. These innovations contributed to the light, smooth character of Glen Grant whisky. The Italian company Campari Group currently owns the company, having acquired it in 2006.
Hunter Laing is a family-owned independent bottler of Scotch whisky, based in Glasgow. Founded in 2013 by Stewart Laing and his sons, Andrew and Scott, the company specialises in selecting and bottling rare and high-quality single malt and blended Scotch whiskies. The company also owns and operates Islay's newest distillery, Ardnahoe, who's inaugural release came in 2024.
Each bottling from Hunter Laing's Old & Rare range comes from carefully matured casks, resulting in limited quantities due to the angels’ share. Bottled naturally, without heavy filtration or added colouring. Every cask delivers a unique tasting experience that no other can exactly replicate.
This Single Cask Glen Grant bottling was distilled in March 1994, and bottled at 29 years old. The spirit matured in a Refill Barrel, producing 173 bottles.
This light-gold coloured whisky is beautifully sweet and refreshing on the nose with summer fruits, vanilla extract and orange blossom. Soft and complex on the palate, it opens up into apple and pear crumble with vanilla custard, sultanas and a drizzle of honey. The finish is long and sweet with the lightest touch of American white oak.
