The distillery was founded in 1832 by the Galbraith family, during the height of Campbeltown's whisky boom when the town was home to over 30 distilleries. Situated on the Kintyre Peninsula, the distillery capitalised on the area's rich resources and ideal conditions for whisky production.
Throughout the 19th century, Glen Scotia became a significant player in the whisky industry. However, the early 20th century brought challenges, including the First World War, Prohibition in the United States, and economic downturns, which led to the closure of many Campbeltown distilleries. Despite these difficulties, Glen Scotia managed to survive. During the mid-20th century, Glen Scotia changed ownership several times, before becoming part of the Loch Lomond Group in 1999, majorly contributing to the revival of Campbeltown as a notable whisky-producing region.
Known for producing a diverse range of single malt whiskies, including both peated and unpeated expressions, Glen Scotia showcases the maritime influence of the area.
Glen Scotia Double Cask is a superb introduction into the range for whisky explorers. A nod to the history of Campbeltown harbour, bringing in exotic casks and goods from around the world. This single malt is matured in first fill bourbon casks with a 12 month finish in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. This expression has the classic Campbeltown notes, maritime sea salt spray, apple and pear, with the influence of rich spicy fruit notes from the PX casks.

Nose - Crème caramel, toffee, apple and peach, sea spray.
Palate - Rich spicy fruits, toffee, fudge.
Finish - Vanilla oak and gentle spice.

1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
