Henstone was first conceived in 2016 by four friends and their mutual yearning to create sensational 'top-shelf' spirits. Established in Oswestry, Shropshire, Henstone is the brainchild of Chris and Alexandra Toller, and Shane and Alison Parr. Currently located at the Stonehouse Brewery site, the company's aim is to create the best quality products for people who enjoy sophisticated, classic spirits, but with that small batch twist.
The name Henstone originates from the family homes of the original co-founders. Chris and Alex live in an ex-public house called “The Hen and Chickens”, whilst Shane and Alison live in “Stone House”. Alongside whisky, they also produce gin, rum and vodka, alongside a corn liquor.
Henstone Distillery’s production takes place in a 1,000-litre copper pot still, named Hilda, sourced from Kothe in Germany. The distillery also has a strong emphasis on sustainability, using locally sourced grains and botanicals where possible and supporting the local agricultural community. Their eco-friendly approach, combined with small-batch production, allows them to maintain control over quality while reducing environmental impact.
The spirit for this Henstone release spent more than three years in an ex-Bourbon (Heaven Hill) Cask and was followed by another 12 months in an ex-Pedro Ximénez Quarter Cask. The result is this stunning sherry influenced single malt whisky.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Stewed dates, espresso martini, barley, and cinnamon.
Palate - Sticky dried fruits with marmalade, walnuts, and gingerbread – Christmas cake in a glass!
Finish - Rich and sweet with aromatic spice in support.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
