The distillery was officially established in 1798 by David Robertson, however, local legend suggests that Magnus Eunson, a notorious smuggler and illicit distiller, operated on the site in the late 18th century. The distillery operated illegally until 1826, when it obtained a license and began legal production.
In 1876, William Stuart acquired the company, and later, in 1895, Stuart partnered with James Grant. Under their ownership, the distillery expanded and improved its facilities, undergoing significant upgrades, including the addition of new stills and modernisation of its equipment. In 1937, the Highland Distillers Company purchased Highland Park, bringing further financial stability and resources.
Today, Highland Park is known for its balanced, smoky whiskies with notes of heather honey and a complex flavour profile.
To create this 15 year old single malt, Gordon Motion, Highland Park’s Master Whisky Maker, selected predominantly sherry seasoned European oak casks. This bottling delivers warm, spicy notes and sherry seasoned American oak casks to provide a balance of sweet vanilla.
Expertly adding just a few refill casks to soften and smooth the flavours, Gordon chose to bottle at 44% ABV. This allows the whisky’s vibrant fruitiness and distinctive heathery peat smoke to shine through. A wonderfully rich and complex single malt.
Official Tasting Notes
Opening with rich and spicy aromas of crème brulee, heather honey and crumbled cinnamon, intensely fruity notes follow – fresh pineapple dressed with a scattering of sun-kissed lemon zest. There’s a hint of freshly-baked sponge cake too, warm from the oven. You’ll find cinnamon again, but toasted shards this time. Citrus and vanilla notes linger in the aromatic waves of peat smoke.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
