This process involved filtering the whiskey through charcoal made from sugar maple trees. This unique process, known as the Lincoln County Process, gives Jack Daniels its distinctive flavour.
The company faced challenges during Prohibition in the 1920s. It managed to survive by selling whiskey for medicinal purposes and through the black market. After Prohibition ended, the distillery resumed legal production and continued to grow its brand.
In 1956, the Brown-Forman Corporation acquired the distillery. They helped to expand its distribution and introduce it to international markets. Today, Jack Daniels is one of the best-selling whiskey brands in the world. Known for its smooth taste and iconic square bottles, their rich history is deeply rooted in American whiskey culture.

1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
