John Jameson founded Jameson Distillery in Dublin in 1780. Originally a lawyer from Scotland, John begun distilling in Bow Street in Dublin. John Jameson's commitment and dedication to producing high-quality whiskey undoubtedly formed the foundation for the brand's success. One of John's four sons, John II, who took over the business in 1805. His son, John III, took up ownership in 1851.
Over the years, Jameson became known for its triple-distillation process, which contributed to the smooth and mellow character of its whiskey. The Bow Street Distillery grew in size and reputation, becoming one of the largest and most influential distilleries in Ireland.
In 1966, Jameson joined forces with Cork Distillers and John Powers, creating the Irish Distillers Group. By 1975, the decision was made to halt operations at Bow Street and relocate to the New Midleton Distillery.
Jameson Black Barrel blends small batch grain and single pot Irish whiskey, undergoing a triple distillation process. Matured in double charred barrels, this whiskey boasts sweet and spicy characteristics.
