Loch Lomond is a
Lowland Distillery which was founded in 1965. The distillery is situated in a converted dye works in the town of Alexandria, which is located just outside Glasgow. Named after the infamous nearby loch, it was founded by the owners of the now closed Littlemill Distillery, which was just down the road towards Glasgow, as they wanted to expand. Loch Lomond creates a range of different single single malt as well as single grain whiskies (both of which come in peated and un-peated varieties). The distillery utilises several different styles of stills to create their wide range of scotch whiskies.
Loch Lomond 12 year old single malt stands as a perfect representation of the distillery's signature style. It skillfully delivers delicious notes of peach and pear, beautifully layered with vanilla sweetness. Finally, on the finish, a gentle hint of smoke emerges.
Crafted in the shadow of the great Ben Lomond, the distillers employed both the unique Straight Neck stills and the more traditional Swan Neck Stills in creating this bottling. Subsequently, they aged the whisky in three varieties of American Oak casks—bourbon, refill, and re-charred—enhancing its complexity and character.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Crisp green apple, ripe pear and refreshing citrus lemon with background notes of golden cereal.
Taste - Orchard fruits and lemon meringue. The deep fruity character of pear leads into citrus lemon, vanilla meringue and light biscuit sweetness.
Finish - Medium in length with gentle wood smoke and a lingering tang.
