Longmorn Distillery was founded in 1894, near the town of Elgin in the heart of Speyside. Their capacity is 4.5 million litres a year from four pairs of stills. The fruity and rich spirit has always been a favourite for blenders.
Gordon and MacPhail are independent bottlers and whisky merchants based at Elgin on Speyside. They buy spirit, from various distilleries, when it is first made, and mature it in their own casks. The family that owns the company, the Urquhart family, are now on the fourth generation of whisky maturation, bottling and distilling experts.
This whisky is part of their Distillery Labels range, these are often from distilleries which historically did not have their own bottling, only selling in cask mainly for blending. This Longmorn bottling was distilled in 2008. Matured in a mixture of first fill Sherry Hogsheads and refill Bourbon Barrels in Gordon and MacPhail's warehouses.
Official Tasting Notes
Colour - Dark Gold.
Aroma - Stewed raisins and pressed apple aromas compliment autumnal spices. Toasted hazelnuts develop alongside candied peel.
Taste - Strawberry flavours combine with smooth citrus and aniseed. Raspberry gives way to walnut and charred oak.
Finish - Full with ripe plum and chocolate.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
