Mortlach is Dufftown's oldest distillery dating back to 1823. James Findlater founded Mortlach as the first legal distillery in Dufftown, establishing it over sixty years before the next distillery, Glenfiddich, opened in the town. The distillery has changed hands several times over the years, and today, Diageo, the world’s largest drinks company, owns Mortlach.
The distillery has six stills - three wash stills and three spirit stills - all different sizes. This gives them the ability to make slightly different styles of spirit. Mortlach whisky has a strong reputation with both drinkers of single malts and blenders due to the high quality of spirit distilled there.
This 12 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been double cask matured in both European and American oak to enhance the distinctively rich and robust character that makes Mortlach whiskies legendary.
This bottling is named after their famous Spirit Still, The Wee Witchie. This is due to its short squat base and pointy Lynne arm resembling a witch’s hat. Before filling any casks, at least one charge from The Wee Witchie must be in the Spirit Receiver, ensuring that some Wee Witchie spirit gets into every cask.

Colour - Full amber.
Body - Medium to full-bodied mouth texture.
Nose - Rich and deep. A balance of oak and sandalwood. Light spice, charred toffee and red berries.
Palate - Sweet and spicy. Notes of demerara sugar, dark chocolate, cherry jam, light tobacco. Classic characteristics of Mortlach's meatiness.
Finish - Smooth and dry, with a palate of bitter plum.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
