The two operated independently until 1908 when they merged under the Ben Nevis name. The distillery saw various ownership changes throughout the 20th century. In 1989, the Japanese company Nikka Whisky Distilling Co. Ltd. acquired it, and they still at the helm today.
As part of the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2008, it is no longer possible for Ben Nevis to refer to their blend as Dew of Ben Nevis, unless all the constituent parts of the blend have been produced at the distillery. The Blue Label blend contains not only Ben Nevis malt, but also grain and malt whiskies from other distilleries. Therefore they have had to re-brand this and most of their other blends as Nevis Dew.
They believe that the Dew of Ben Nevis name originated when Donald P.McDonald sold his malt whiskies under the brand name of 'Long John's Celebrated Dew of Ben Nevis', sometime around the mid 1800's.
The change in name is the only change. Be assured that the whisky contained within the bottle is exactly the same award winning blend as before.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
