Oban Distillery is one of the oldest and most picturesque distilleries in Scotland, located in the coastal town of Oban in the western
Highlands. Founded in 1794 by brothers John and Hugh Stevenson, local entrepreneurs who saw an opportunity to develop the small fishing village of Oban. They established the distillery as part of their broader plan to promote the town's growth.
Throughout the 19th century, the distillery underwent several ownership changes but continued to produce whisky, expanding in 1820, to meet increasing demand. In 1883, J. Walter Higgin bought the distillery and undertook significant renovations, modernising the facilities and further expanding production capacity. In 1923, Oban Distillery was acquired by the Distillers Company Limited (DCL). They later became part of Diageo, who continue to operate the company today.
Known for its small size and traditional production methods, Oban has retained much of its original character, producing whisky in small batches.
Oban Little Bay is made using whisky matured in three different types of cask. These are - first fill ex-Sherry, European Oak re-fill casks with new oak ends, and re-fill American Oak Hogsheads. After blending, they marry the whisky and leave it to settle in smaller oak casks for additional maturation.
Bold and complex, Little Bay boasts luscious notes of Christmas pudding, citrus, and spice, with a dark-chocolate finish.
