Old Ballantruan is made at Tomintoul Distillery. Located near the village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Scottish Highlands. Situated within the Glenlivet estate in the Speyside region, and in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Established in 1964 by Hay & Macleod and W. & S. Strong, today the distillery is owned by Angus Dundee Distillers, which acquired it in 2000.
The area surrounding the distillery is one of astounding natural beauty. This natural environment combined with the fresh mountain air of the Cairngorms, the soft, pure water from the Ballantruan spring and the tall and mighty stills of Tomintoul, all contribute to creating this exceptionally smooth and well-balanced whisky.
Old Ballantruan owes its name to an exceptional source of the purest waters, the Ballantruan spring. The water from this spring significantly contributes to this remarkable single malt.
Crafted using heavily peated malted barley in the traditional manner. Aged for several years in hand-picked oak barrels before bottling at 50% ABV. Non chill-filltered, preserving its complex and integrated peaty flavours.

Colour - Warm gold.
Nose - Heathery smoke balanced with subtle floral notes.
Palate - Gentle “Peat-reek” flavours with hints of citrus tones and malty nuttiness.
Finish - Lingering smoke and peat with a touch of malted barley sweetness.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
