Retribution Distilling Co. is a small, independent English distillery founded by Richard Lock in Somerset and officially incorporated in 2019. Its origins trace back to Lock’s early 2010s hobby of home brewing, which led him to pursue beer-making in a garden shed. Over time, his passion deepened through formal study in brewing and distilling at Heriot-Watt University, eventually shifting focus from brewing to spirits. The distillery itself grew organically - from small-scale experiments in a shed to a working farm-based operation producing gin, rum, vodka, and whisky using local ingredients.
This is the fourth release from Retribution - a single cask PX Hogshead Hogshead (Cask No. W005). The cask has had a big influence on the new make spitit. It's imparted the classic PX flavours of dried fruit (figs and dates), with a hint of leather/tobacco, nuttiness and a sweetness from the sherry. All layered over the top of the smooth and creamy new make spirit. They've used Maris Otter Malt (floor malted at Warminster Maltings) to create the spirit, adding complexity and depth.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
