Located on the Kintyre Peninsula is Western Scotland is Springbank Distillery. Owned by J & A Mitchell & Company, the distillery is one of the last surviving creators of single malt whiskies in
Campbeltown. Unique to other Scottish distilleries, Springbank perform every step in the whisky making process, from malting the barley to bottling the spirit. The distillery now produces three different brands of peated and un-peated whisky, Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn.
Matured in 100% Sherry casks for 15 years, this Springbank bottling is dark and ominous, but delicious - like a storm gathering off the Kintyre coast. An exceptional dram, perfect to enjoy with a cigar.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Springbank’s gentle giant. This dram is big and bold with notes of cured meat, barbecued beef jerky, clove, mint, iodine, oxo cube and tinned prunes all evident from the Oloroso cask maturation, while lobster creels hint at Springbank’s characteristic maritime influence.
Palate - The peaty character is now evident with sooty kiln smoke and tobacco leaves prominent in this viscous tipple. There's also prunes, walnuts, figs, Demerara sugar, cocoa powder and smoked meats.
Finish - The finish grows and develops with notes of soot, leather and walnuts prominent before easing off like the ebbing tide over one of Kintyre’s pebble beaches.
