The English Distillery is based in Roudham, Norfolk. James and Andrew Nelstrop, a father and son team, established the distillery in 2006. The Nelstrop damily have a long history in farming, and James had a long-time ambition of opening a distillery. The company continues to be an independent, family owned business, born out of the family's passion for single malt whisky.
Built for the sole intention of handcrafting the finest English Single Malt, at the time of the distillery's completion, it was
England's first whisky distillery in over 100 years. King Charles III officially opened the distillery in March 2007.
The English Distillery offer whiskies of a wide range of flavours. They produce both peated and un-peated whiskies and also use a variety of different casks for certain releases. They have whisky maturing in their warehouses to last 40 years.
Founders' Private Cellar 18 year old is a limited edition single malt crafted from a single rum cask. It's the distillery's oldest release to date. Chosen from one of the finest casks resting in the founding family's private cellar, this whisky evokes memories of the early days of the distillery. A limited release of only 174 individually numbered bottles.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Fruits, caramel and vanilla with a background hint of spice.
Palate - Initially full bodied, warming spice (cinnamon and clove), smooth vanilla, raisins, boiled tropical sweets, with a slight oak smoke; over time the whisky in the glass, the spice changes to a chocolate note.
Finish - Medium to long finish with a sweet linger of tropical fruit and oak. A beautiful whisky that clings to the glass and really opens up with a splash of water.
