Black Bottle, a
blended Scotch whisky, is made by Distell Group. Three brothers, Charles, David, and Gordon Graham, tea blenders from Aberdeen, first introduced the blend in 1879. After experiencing a prolonged period of decline, Burn Stewart Distillers, now owned by Distell, revitalised the blend in 1990, by creating a new combination of Islay Single Malt whiskies.
This is the Black Bottle Original, a boldly smoky and sweet blend. Blazing oak rips through dry woodsmoke with honey, sea-salt and charred toffee.
Gordon Graham's original recipe, which includes a significant proportion of malts, continues to inspire the secret blend to this day. Black Bottle features several peated malts from Islay, balanced-out with unpeated malts and ex-Bourbon cask-matured grains.
The use of a mix of medium and heavily charred casks releases natural sugars that caramelise to balance the smoke with the perfect sweetness. Black Bottle is made with malts matured in Virgin Oak casks. This extracts sweet vanilla and coconut flavours to deliver even more depth and character.
