Caisteal Chamuis is a Blended Malt Scotch whisky, made by Mossburn Distillers. The ruins of this bottling's namesake, Caisteal Chamuis, also known as Knock Castle or Castle Camus, lies on the headland on the eastern flank of Knock Bay on the Isle of Skye, in sight of the grounds of the Torabhaig Distillery. The stone to build the steading, that would in turn become Torabhaig, were originally taken from the by then derelict castle.
This classic Island style Blended Malt Whisky is a tribute to Hebridean life and lore, and reminds the drinker of a time of peat fires, lively company, and bold spirits. It is a characterful whisky, carefully blended and double barrelled in Mossburn casks to balance the heavy island peat. This makes it accessible for those curious to explore the Island style.
Caisteal Chamuis 12 year old begins by skillfully blending Island Malts, carefully aged in refill American Oak Hogsheads. Subsequently, the blend undergoes re-aging in a variety of Oloroso Sherry casks, among them, their own Solera. The age of this whisky has slightly mellowed the maritime punch of the peat. However, this has been delightfully rounded up with the seductive oak-spice depth and light sweetness added by the Sherry casking.
Rich with plenty of residual phenolic flavours and a distinctive smoky finish.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
