In its early years, Glenmorangie operated as a small-scale distillery. By the late 19th century, it began to gain a good reputation. The distillery underwent several ownership changes throughout the 20th century. In 1918, the Macdonald family, through their company Macdonald and Muir, acquired Glenmorangie. The family played a crucial role in expanding the distillery's production capacity and market reach. Today, the company is operated by Moet Hennessy, who acquired the brand in 2004.
Glenmorangie is famous for its exceptionally tall stills, which stand at 8 meters. These tall stills are among the tallest in Scotland and contribute to the whisky’s distinctive light and complex character.
Previously bottled at 10 years old, Glenmorangie signature bottling - The Original - is now 12 years old, but still as smooth and as luscious as before. By letting it age for 12 years in bourbon casks, the spirit absorbs all manner of delectable flavours. The result is a whisky that welcomes you with a rush of citrus and layers of luscious flavour.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
