When considering a name for a new Campbeltown Malt, Kilkerran emerged as a fitting choice. Diverging from the convention of old Campbeltown distilleries usually adopting names associated with a Glen, a practice more commonly linked with the Speyside region.
Glengyle Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Campbeltown, Scotland. Establishing its official status in 2004, Glengyle Distillery's roots extend to the historic Glengyle Distillery. Active in the 19th century, operations ceased in 1925.
Owned by the Mitchell family, the distillery operates under the Mitchell's Glengyle Limited company. The Mitchells also own the renowned Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown. Many consider Kilkerran the "sister distillery" to Springbank, as it shares traditional production methods and a dedication to craftsmanship.
A departure from Kilkerran's typically lightly peated single malt. The Heavily Peated is released twice per year at cask strength and around 45PPM. Although maturation can vary, they typically mature it predominantly in Bourbon casks. The Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch No. 14 maturation is 90% Bourbon Casks and 10% Sherry Casks.
