They grow their own barley and distill and mature their spirit all on site, keeping as much of the process as local as they can.
Lochlea are very proud that Robert Burns called Lochlea his home from 1777 until his father’s death in 1784. By day, Burns worked hard on the farm and in the evening, he enjoyed the company of his friends, debating at the Bachelors’ Club in nearby Tarbolton. The ground there has inspired the honest, passionate, and progressive nature of Lochlea whisky.
Lochlea's Single Estate core range of single malts is a permanent collection, reflecting their commitment to quality, provenance, and character. Each expression is crafted from their own barley, distilled and matured entirely on-site. This range builds on the success of the seasonal releases, offering whisky lovers a consistent and characterful experience all year round.
Dark Briar is a bold and indulgent whisky, inspired by their Fallow Edition. This rich single malt is matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso sherry butts, and Port casks, delivering layers of juicy red fruits, ginger cake, and velvety baking spice.

Nose - Rich and sweet, red fruit, pic’n’mix sweets, with a touch of vanilla caramel, and fresh baking spices.
Palate - Big, bold and juicy, with lots of cherries and sweet, sticky plums, warming tannins & ginger cake.
Finish - Long and rich, with velvety tannins, and baking spice.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
