Hawick, The Borders Distillery was opened in 2018 by four industry veterans. They realised that there was no distillery in the Borders, and decided to bring Scotch Whisky production back to the region for the first time since 1837.
Their home is a restored Victorian building in the heart of Hawick. This small market town is known for its tweed and cashmere production. They use 100% local barley, sourced from nearby farmers within 35 miles of the distillery. They also use mineral-rich water from a natural aquifer, which lies 17 metres below the distillery. A 72-hour fermentation period helps develop the spirit’s character, and four stills are configured for maximum copper contact. A long maturation period then creates a welcoming, fruit-forward Single Malt.
This is The Borders First Release - the first Single Malt Scotch Whisky to leave the Scottish Borders in two centuries! An 8 year old bottling, matured in 1st fill Bourbon and Madeira casks.
1st fill Bourbon barrels are the foundation of this whisky, and of every signature whisky that will follow. It brings notes of caramel, vanilla, honey and a soft, rounded sweetness. A final Madeira cask maturation takes it further, adding flavours of rich sultanas and even greater depth.
A limited release of 10,000 bottles.
Limited to 2 bottles per customer.
