The English Whisky Company is based out of St. George's Distillery in Roudham, Norfolk. James and Andrew Nelstrop, a father and son duo, established the distillery in 2006. The Nelstrop Family have a long history in farming, and James has a long-time ambition of opening a distillery. The company continues to be an independent, family owned business, born out of the Nelstrop families passion for single malt whisky.
Built for the sole intention of handcrafting the finest English Single Malt, at the time of the distillery's completion, it was the
England's first whisky distillery in over 100 years. The distillery was officially opened in March 2007 by King Charles III.
The English Whisky Co. offer whiskies of a wide range of flavours, the distillery produces both peated and un-peated whiskies while they also use a variety of different casks for certain releases. They have whisky maturing in their warehouses to last 40 years. Alongside the single malts, they also produce a range of whisky liqueurs.
After a mere 17 years of distilling, the team at The English Whisky Co. finally have just enough stock to add a sherry cask matured single cask whisky to their core range. This is a momentous step for the distillery and a big milestone as it continues to demonstrate the skill of the distillery and the depth of the maturing stock.
This particular bottling was the winner of ‘World's Best Single Malt Whisky' at the World Whiskies Awards 2024.
Official Tasting Notes
Wafts of rich dark fruits, almonds and vanilla. Followed by a wonderful taste of fruit cake, digestive biscuits, honey and figs with a hint of chocolate. All topped off with a lovely long and sweet finish.
