Speyside, Tormore Distillery has been owned by Elixir Distillers since 2022. Originally owned by Long John International, production began at the distillery in 1960. The distillery was sold to Whitbread in 1975, with ownership eventually passing to Allied Distillers in 1989, and Pernod Ricard in 2005. The distillery mainly produces spirit for blends, but Elixir are continuing to work to increase single malt production at Tormore in the future.
Created in 1968 by George Urquhart, the Connoisseurs Choice range has featured more than 2,000 bottlings from almost 100 Scottish distilleries. The label of each Connoisseurs Choice whisky narrates its story, including cask type, bottling date, strength, vintage, and tasting note. Gordon & MacPhail, drawing on four generations of the same family, uniquely crafts these rare single cask and small batch expressions by applying their expertise in matching spirit to oak casks. These creations consistently remain non-chill-filtered.
This edition of Tormore was distilled in 1995, and matured in a refill sherry puncheon cask. Gordon and MacPhail then bottled it in April 2024, at 57.1% ABV.
Official Tasting Notes
Bright orange peel aromas combine with sweet raspberry clove and cinnamon spice. Meanwhile, black flavours complement festive spices and stewed apple. Finally, a full and spicy finish with lingering citrus fruits.
