Williams joined as a general worker, progressing through the ranks and eventually becoming the manager of the distillery. He introduced innovations like electricity to the distillery and a mechanised bottling process, which were groundbreaking for that era. Williams led Tullamore to thrive. His initials, DEW, were added to the brand name as a mark of quality, creating the name Tullamore Dew.
In 1954, the original Tullamore Dew distillery closed. John Powers & Son bought the brand in the 1960s and moved production to the Midleton Distillery in the 1970s, after a merger of distillers. In 2010, William Grant & Sons acquired the brand and built a new distillery in Tullamore. The distillery opened in 2014, restoring local production after 60 years.
Tullamore Dew is the original triple blend Irish whiskey, known for its smooth and gentle complexity. The whiskey achieves a perfect balance of fruit and spice, with its complex yet approachable flavours coming from the use of three types of grain, triple distillation, and a blend of all three Irish whiskey styles.
The spirit undergoes triple cask maturation for enhanced depth and balance, aging over several years in traditional refill barrels, ex-bourbon barrels, and ex-sherry butts.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
